Senior Metadata Analyst

Are you an experienced Metadata Analyst ready to take the lead in managing and enhancing enterprise data governance? Our client, a forward-thinking organization investing heavily in data strategy, is looking for a Senior Metadata Analyst to play a key role in shaping their metadata framework and driving visibility across complex data ecosystems.

About the Role

As a Senior Metadata Analyst, you'll be responsible for building, managing, and improving metadata systems that support data discovery, lineage, and governance across the organization. You'll work closely with data engineering, governance, and architecture teams to ensure a robust and scalable metadata management practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of metadata strategies, standards, and processes.
  • Maintain and optimize metadata tools, with a focus on Microsoft Purview.
  • Work with ETL processes to ensure accurate metadata capture and lineage tracking.
  • Develop and run complex SQL queries to analyse and manage metadata assets.
  • Collaborate with data stewards, analysts, and engineers to ensure consistency and usability of metadata.
  • Ensure metadata supports regulatory and compliance needs (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Drive the adoption of metadata practices across the business through documentation and training.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Metadata or Data Governance role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for metadata extraction and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL pipelines and tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Talend).
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Purview or similar metadata management platforms.
  • Understanding of data cataloguing, lineage, classification, and governance principles.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and metadata standards (e.g., DCAM, DAMA-DMBOK) is a plus.
