Domain Architect - Cloud Solutions | Hybrid | Full-Time
We're supporting a client seeking a hands-on Domain Architect to lead the delivery of a modern, distributed eCommerce platform built across Azure and Google Cloud (GCP). This is a hybrid role with 3 days onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Travel is covered. This person will oversee critical architecture decisions, infrastructure design, and technical delivery - driving outcomes across a multi-region cloud environment.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership
Architect and deliver a multi-cloud platform spanning Azure and GCP, optimized for high availability and scalability
Design container orchestration strategies using Kubernetes (AKS and GKE), leveraging Helm or Kustomize
Drive containerization, CI/CD automation (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), and cloud-native patterns
Establish load balancing, ingress, DNS failover, and global routing best practices
Implement observability tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Datadog)
Lead data migration efforts from Cosmos DB to MongoDB, including schema optimization and replication strategy
Shape API gateway and stateless service patterns to support scalability and resilience
Infrastructure & DevOps
Define and manage infrastructure via Terraform (IaC)
Guide security, IAM, and service mesh patterns (e.g., Istio or Linkerd) across cloud environments
Lead efforts on container security, deployment automation, and platform readiness
Project & Delivery Oversight
Act as technical delivery lead on one major workstream (infrastructure or application/data)
Facilitate agile/kanban workflows, manage backlog, and coordinate cross-functional delivery
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, QA, and client teams to ensure aligned execution
Drive documentation, runbooks, demos, and stakeholder updates
What You Bring
Expertise in both Azure and GCP cloud platforms
Deep understanding of Kubernetes and deployment tools like Helm or Kustomize
Strong background in Terraform and modern infrastructure-as-code practices
Experience leading cloud-native application design and cloud migrations
Proven hands-on work with MongoDB and ideally Cosmos DB
Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, GitOps tooling (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux), and observability platforms
Past experience as a Tech Lead or Architect in a consulting, SaaS, or product-led environment
Strong communicator, able to interface with technical and business stakeholders alike
Preferred
Experience with Anthos, Istio, or multi-cloud service meshes
Exposure to failure testing / chaos engineering (e.g., Azure Chaos Studio, Gremlin)
Cloud certifications (Azure or GCP architect-level preferred)
