Role - Director of Quality
Location - San Francisco, onsite
Salary - $160k per annum plus benefits
Overview:
We're partnering with a cutting-edge biotechnology company at the forefront of synthetic biology innovation. Based in San Francisco, our client is reshaping the future of health, sustainability, and bio-manufacturing through groundbreaking science and technology. As they scale rapidly, they are seeking a Director of Quality Assurance to lead and evolve their quality function with a strong operational focus.
The Opportunity:
This is not your typical QA role. Our client is not looking for someone rooted in clinical research or regulatory affairs, this is a true quality operations leadership role. You'll own the development and oversight of a world-class Quality Management System, drive continuous improvement across GMP processes, and build a future-proof QA function aligned with the pace of scientific innovation.
We need a QA leader who thrives in a dynamic, cross-functional environment and has a strong grasp of manufacturing quality, risk management, compliance, and systems thinking. If you're someone who sees around corners, leverages AI to make smarter decisions, and is passionate about quality as a driver of innovation, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and scale the Quality Assurance function across operational domains including manufacturing, lab practices, document control, CAPA, and change control.
Own the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring its alignment with global standards and future scalability.
Drive strategic initiatives that embed quality into every stage of the product lifecycle.
Collaborate closely with R&D, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Leadership to foster a culture of quality.
Leverage AI tools and digital systems to streamline processes and enhance decision-making.
Represent QA in audits, inspections, and external partnerships.
About You:
10+ years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance, in a biotech environment (Synthetic experience desireable)
Proven track record in operational quality - this is not a regulatory or clinical QA role.
Deep understanding of GMP requirements and risk management
A forward-thinker with a passion for leveraging AI and digital tools to modernize quality systems.
Strong leadership and communication skills; experience building and mentoring high-performing teams.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, innovative environment where flexibility and initiative are key.
Why Join?
Be a foundational leader in one of the most exciting fields in science and technology.
Work in a mission-driven environment that values bold thinking and execution.
Enjoy the energy of a start-up backed by serious scientific pedigree and vision.
Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits package
