Role Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing robust data pipelines and architectures that enable advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and business intelligence. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimise, and maintain complex data pipelines using SQL, Python, and cloud services.
• Lead the design of scalable data models for data lakes, data warehouses, and integration layers on Azure.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to produce reliable and accessible data assets.
• Drive best practices in data architecture, ensuring platform security, compliance, and data quality standards.
• Lead migration projects moving legacy data systems to cloud-native solutions.
• Establish and monitor data quality frameworks, including validation rules, lineage tracking, and automated testing.
• Mentor and guide junior data engineers, conducting code reviews and architectural assessments.
• Contribute to defining engineering standards, documentation, and agile processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 6 years practical experience in data engineering within enterprise environments.
• Expert proficiency in SQL (performance tuning, indexing, query optimisation) and Python (PySpark, pipeline development).
• Significant hands-on experience with Azure data services including Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and Data Lake Storage.
• Proven track record designing data models and architectures supporting analytics and AI use cases.
• Deep understanding of data quality, governance frameworks, and compliance in regulated environments.
• Experience in migrating data solutions from on-premises to cloud platforms.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or Databricks Certified Associate Developer.
• Knowledge of modern data architecture paradigms like medallion architecture, data mesh, or data lakehouse strategies.
• Exposure to other relational databases and ETL/ELT frameworks.
