Principal Powertrain Controls & Avionics Engineer

On-site LA | $200 – $270k DOE + Strong Equity | 2 stage interview

iO Associates’ US green aviation partner is ramping a flagship aircraft programme through certification and into commercial service and requires a senior, hands-on controls expert, to lead certifiable aircraft-control software and avionics, from development through ground test, flight test and FAA approval.

You will own the power-management controller and help shape the wider cockpit and avionics architecture around it.

You will be:

  • Lead the development and certification of powertrain-control avionics.
  • Own the DO-178C software plan and delivery
  • Integrate and test controller units across dyno, iron-bird and flight-test environments.
  • Plan and deliver qualification and certification test campaigns.
  • Manage hardware suppliers and ensure technical and certification evidence stays on track.
  • Resolve complex EMI issues across the system.
  • Lead the development of additional flight-deck and avionics functions as the programme matures.
  • Build and mentor the controls engineering team over time.

You must have:

  • Strong aerospace, avionics, flight-deck or safety-critical embedded-controls experience.
  • Expert DO-178C knowledge, ideally delivered a DO-178C or DO-254 programme through certification
  • Hands-on Simulink / model-based design and auto-code generation experience.
  • Confidence in leading suppliers as well as getting hands-on with integration and test.
  • Bonus if you have prior experience in green aviation.

This is a key hire, reporting directly to the Exec, with occasional travel for flight-test activity. So interviews are available ASAP following Labor Day weekend.

If you have led the delivery of certifiable avionics or aircraft controls and want to own a core product on an emerging aircraft programme, get in touch now to arrange a call.
