Job Title: Master Data Management and Data Governance Solution Architect

Organisation Overview:

Our Client operates within the data management and analytics industry, helping organisations harness their data assets for strategic insight and operational excellence. Renowned for fostering innovation, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement, they are a premier destination for driven professionals seeking to make a tangible impact in the data landscape. Their commitment to technological excellence and employee development makes them a role model in their sector.

Role Summary:

Due to ongoing strategic growth, our Client seeks an experienced Solution Architect specialising in Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance to lead the design and realisation of enterprise-wide data frameworks. This pivotal position supports their mission to embed governance principles into core data infrastructure, aligning data policies and semantic layers with high-level AI and analytics initiatives. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to shape foundational data solutions that enhance data quality, compliance, and usability across the organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of comprehensive data governance and MDM architecture, ensuring robust integration with existing data platforms and workflows.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to extract detailed requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Design how governance policies and metadata repositories mesh with domain-specific semantic layers, supporting consistent data definitions and data-driven AI models.
  • Define standardised data and metadata ingestion, lineage tracking, and dissemination patterns to support regulatory compliance and operational transparency.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools and platforms (such as Collibra, Alation, Snowflake, Databricks, or cloud-native offerings) that best suit enterprise needs, ensuring platform-agnostic design principles.
  • Develop reusable architectural components and reference models to streamline future implementations across diverse data domains.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing guidance on technical trade-offs, best practices, and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee implementation work, collaborating closely with engineering teams to ensure architectural fidelity and best practice adherence.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards and governance frameworks for metadata, data lineage, automation, and AI data controls.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years in data architecture, with a significant recent focus on data governance, metadata, or enterprise data management.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing scalable solutions leveraging MDM and data governance platforms, preferably with experience across major tools such as Collibra, Alation, or open standards like OpenMetadata.
  • Solid understanding of modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) and their integration with governance solutions.
  • Practical knowledge of metadata standards, APIs, and data lineage technologies, especially REST, OpenLineage, and event-driven patterns.
  • Demonstrable success in translating complex business needs into streamlined, scalable architecture designs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and technical teams alike.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as TOGAF, CDMP, or cloud architecture credentials are highly desirable.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working within regulated industries, including finance, healthcare, or life sciences.
  • Knowledge of semantic technologies such as RDF, OWL, SKOS, or knowledge graphs and their application within data architectures.
  • Experience defining AI governance controls, including responsible AI frameworks and AI risk management practices.
  • Familiarity with semantic layer platforms like dbt MetricFlow, AtScale, or Cube.dev.
  • Certification in solution or enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF) or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

What Success Looks Like:

Success in this role entails delivering a comprehensive, scalable architecture that seamlessly aligns data governance policies with operational platforms. The Architect will produce standardised reference models, ensure metadata and lineage are fully operationalised across key systems, and foster consensus among business, data, and engineering leaders. The ultimate goal is embedding governance deeply into the data lifecycle, enabling trustworthy AI deployment, regulatory compliance, and data-driven innovation.

If you possess the requisite experience and passion for shaping data infrastructure at an enterprise level, we invite you to submit your CV. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the foundational data architecture of a forward-thinking organisation, on a fully remote contract basis. Suitable candidates will be those who excel in high-visibility roles, thrive in collaborative environments, and are eager to make a substantial impact.
