iO Associates are partnered with an ambitious, well-funded aerospace company developing a next-generation regional aircraft. The program is in active development and the team is scaling, they need a Principal BMS Engineer to take ownership of the electrical energy architecture at the heart of the aircraft.
This is a hands on, high ownership role operating at the intersection of system architecture, control algorithms and high-voltage battery integration. You will take systems from concept through prototyping to production ready, certifiable designs.
You will own:
- Design and development of BMS and high-voltage electrical architectures, including sensing, controls, protection strategies, isolation and communication
- System trade-offs across battery, power electronics and aircraft integration to hit performance, safety, weight and reliability targets
- Development and validation of key battery algorithms (SOC, SOH, SOP)
- Supplier engagement across the full cycle, RFI through to validation for cells, BMS hardware and power electronics
- Safety analysis and requirements traceability in line with certification objectives
- Close collaboration with propulsion, thermal, avionics and systems teams to deliver a fully integrated electrical system.
You must have:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in battery systems or electrified powertrains – ideally with recent aerospace exposure
- Deep knowledge of BMS architecture across hardware and software: sensing, controls, protection and communication network
- Solid background in high-voltage system design (~800V class) including isolation, contactors, pyrofuse and HVIL.
- Proven experience developing and validating SOC/SOH/SOP algorithms with modelling and simulation tools
- A track record of delivering systems from concept through to production intent with supplier collaboration
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Strong advantage if you have:
- Aerospace certification experience (Part 23/25, FAA/TCCA) and development assurance frameworks (DO-178C/DO-254)
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 or equivalent safety-critical development standards.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the energy architecture of one of the most technically advanced regional aircraft programs currently in development. For full details, let’s chat. Apply and send over your profile.
