Algorithmic Trading Developer (New York)

iO Associates are supporting this leading global financial services firm as the grow their electronic trading technology function, we are hiring an Algorithmic Trading Developer to help build and enhance a high-availability, low-latency algorithmic trading platform. You will work closely with quantitative researchers, product partners, and client-facing stakeholders to deliver performant execution algorithms and supporting infrastructure.

The role

You will join a highly technical team developing client-facing execution solutions, including low-latency order management and order handling components, rules engines, and configurable trading algorithms used across equities and listed derivatives markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain a next-generation algorithmic trading platform focused on low latency and high availability
  • Implement and optimise execution algorithms and quantitative signals in partnership with quantitative teams
  • Build and evolve core components including order management, order handling, rules engines, and related trading infrastructure
  • Partner with product and client-facing teams to deliver client-specific enhancements and customisations
  • Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on pragmatic delivery and continuous improvement

Required experience and skills

  • BS/BA (or higher) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 3 to 5+ years building low-latency trading strategies in equities, futures, or listed derivatives (execution algos, smart routing, risk trading, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience implementing strategies such as benchmark tracking, liquidity-seeking, and dark aggregation
  • Strong knowledge of market microstructure including order types, liquidity, and market data
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and market structure topics (for example US and/or global market rules affecting equity market structure)
  • Strong Java development experience on Linux with solid object-oriented design fundamentals
  • Track record of performance-focused engineering, reusable design, test automation, and flexible codebases
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across quant, product, sales, and operations stakeholders

This position is based in New York City on a hybrid model (3 days off/ 2 days home) applicants must be based locally or open to relocation. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
