Airframe Design Engineer (Composites)

We’re supporting a cutting-edge aerospace programme and are looking for a Airframe Design Engineer (Contract) to join a fast-paced engineering team developing next-generation aircraft.

This role will focus on the design and development of primary and secondary airframe structures, supporting the programme from early concept through to certification and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop structural airframe assemblies across the full lifecycle
• Create and manage 3D CAD models and drawings (NX)
• Apply strong understanding of load paths, structural behaviour, and design best practices
• Design with manufacturing and scalability in mind
• Work across composite and metallic structures, including bonded and sandwich constructions
• Collaborate with stress, manufacturing, and materials teams
• Support build, test, and manufacturing activities

Key requirements (MUST HAVES)

• Proven experience in airframe / aerostructures design
• Strong CAD capability, Siemens NX
• Hands-on experience with composite structures (e.g. bonded assemblies, sandwich panels)
• Understanding of design for manufacture within aerospace
• Experience working in a development-focused, fast-paced environment

Nice to have

• Exposure to aircraft certification (e.g. Part 23)
• Familiarity with tools such as FEMAP / HyperWorks
• Experience supporting prototype through to production
