Embedded Software Engineer – Avionics | Remote | Long Contract

Type: Contract Location: Fully Remote (US-Based) Rate: Competitive – Dependent on Experience Eligibility: US Citizens Only

Please note: Due to the nature of the programmes supported, applicants must be US Citizens. We are unable to consider candidates requiring sponsorship or those holding other visa statuses at this time.

We are working with a leading aerospace software engineering firm on an urgent requirement for multiple Embedded Software Engineers to support safety-critical avionics programmes. These are fully remote contract positions for engineers with a strong avionics background who are comfortable working close to the hardware.

The Role

You will be contributing to next-generation avionics platforms at the embedded software level – working across processor-level development, certification activities, and systems integration in a DO-178C environment. The work is technically demanding and the programmes are high-profile, but the team is strong and the opportunity is a long-term one.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Embedded software development for safety-critical avionics systems
  • Processor and SoC level work – bring-up, bare-metal development, and bootloader implementation
  • Multi-core processor environments – managing interference and ensuring deterministic operation
  • DO-178C compliance activities including WCET and DCCC analyses
  • Novel communications protocols such as TSN, PCIe, and AFDX
  • Integration with FPGA and ASIC hardware
  • Test environment development and automation using Python

What We Are Looking For

You do not need to have done everything listed above – but you do need to be a strong engineer with a solid avionics foundation. The key things that matter:

  • A good grounding in DO-178 – Level B or C experience is important
  • Flight controls or avionics embedded software background
  • Comfortable in C or C++ at a low level – close to the hardware
  • Experience with processor or SoC-level development is a strong advantage
  • Familiarity with RTOS environments and real-time constraints
  • Python skills for scripting and test automation
  • A track record of long-term programme delivery – stability and depth matter here

Why Apply?

  • Fully remote – work from anywhere in the US
  • Multiple openings available – urgent requirement
  • Competitive rates based on experience
  • Long-term contract with a well-established aerospace engineering firm
  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge avionics programmes
